Brendon Wilson, IBM poster-boy wannabeWell, it's been two months since I quit my job as an IBM poster boy to work on HushMail; okay, I was never actually an IBM poster boy, but I could have been a poster boy.  Either way, I decided IBM wasn't about to let me do any 'cool stuff', but then again I'm not sure if there was any 'cool stuff' to be had at my IBM lab.  HushMail, on the other hand, has lots of cool stuff. Being part of a start-up isn't as glamorous as 'Microserfs' made it sound, but it has lots of potential.

Joining HushMail required me to relocate to the Caribbean island of Anguilla (population 10,000), a big change from the city of Vancouver.  Everything seems to be Capitalized here, as there's only one of each thing on this island.  For example, there's The Post Office, The Police Station, and The Prison which is populated by The Prisoner.  It can get pretty boring here, due in part to the lack of movies, books, or any form of entertainment.  Except, of course, for two hurricanes.

As one local told me, "A hurricane is the Caribbean's way of saying hello.  You arrive, and the weather here gives you a little welcome present."  Frankly, it's a housewarming gift I could have done without.

While Hurricane Jose deserved to be in the introduction section of "Hurricanes for Dummies", Hurricane Lenny took the island of Anguilla to school.  We were without power and running water for nearly two weeks, but luckily, the HushMail office regained power after a few days.

Anguilla managed to survive Lenny without any major damage, except a lot of downed power and cable lines.  Of course, I was so desperate for TV by the end of the second week, I risked electrocution in order to jimmy a connection between the two severed ends of cable hanging from our roof.  Ahhh, that's the stuff.

I managed to get a couple dives in before Hurricane Lenny hit Anguilla, and saw lot of fish, and plant life; the best, however, was the five giant sea turtles I saw on a night dive.  Time to buy an underwater camera?

It's weird.  Christmas is almost here, but it just doesn't feel like it...Well, until the next update,
