		<description>think about research institutions ... a lot of times, i see students or phds working with companies to solve problems. it suits the academic because they have the TIME to work on these problems and want to, and the company has the resources to help. in general over here, the onus is on both sides, students have ideas and seek out companies they feel may be interested (and we&#039;re usu not even looking for them to pay us, just want some support). companies also come to our school and say &quot;we&#039;ve got this problem, do you have people that would be interested in working on it?&quot;

then there&#039;s the waterloo &quot;WatCo&quot; formula where they just spin off companies every year =)
